Competition
Rules
The committee wish to encourage all paid up members
to take part in club competitions and to put their work forward for
selection for inter-club competitions and for exhibitions. The object
of the competition rules is to enable members to compete fairly against
each other.
General Rules
1 Competitions are only open
to fully paid up members of Poole Camera Club.
2 Members
must hold the copyright of all photographs used in the images entered
into competitions.
3 Prints entered in competitions
must measure at least 22.5 cm on one side. Mounts may be of any size
up to a maximum of 40
x 50cm.
4 All prints must be mounted with
the members name and title clearly shown on the back.
Titles only
may also be shown on the front if necessary.
5 The top
of the print should be indicated on the back, if necessary.
6 Tinted Prints – Tints of the same colour, varying in density
but including base white will be classified as monochrome.
Tinted prints having more than one colour will be placed in the colour section.
7 All slides
must be correctly spotted for projection and bear the members name
and the title.
8 Digital
entries should be in the following format:-

Each
image file should be named with the photographer’s surname, title.
E.g.
Joe Bloggs_spider.jpeg
Entries
may be submitted on a CD, DVD, and memory stick or by email.
9 All entries
must be submitted on or before the evening specified for that competition’s
entries.
10 To encourage
diversity of entries an original image may only be used to produce
two entries in club competitions.
(Note – this does not bar entries
also being submitted to the selection committee for possible use
in external competitions).
11 The judge’s decision
is final.
12 All trophies remain
the property of Poole Camera Club.
Monthly Competitions and Trophies
13 Members may
enter up to two colour prints, two monochrome prints, two slides
and two digitally projected images.
14 An entry may only be used once
in a monthly competition.
15 Provision may be made for set subjects. The number of set subjects
for the forthcoming season will be decided by the committee.
The subject(s) chosen to be advised early in the New Year for the following
season.
16 Points up to a maximum of ten shall be awarded by the judge to
each entry.
17 The monthly shields are awarded to the best entry in each section.
They are held
until the next monthly competition but shall be returned
to the Competition Secretary at the end of the season.
18 At the end of the season the sum of the points gained by each
member in each section shall be calculated and the Annual Points
trophies awarded as follows:-
Melvin Vaines Cup for Monochrome Prints.
Ray Condon Cup for Colour Prints.
Percey and Swain Cup for Slides.
The Millennium
Cup for Digitally Projected Images.
Annual Competitions and Trophies
19 Members may enter up to three colour prints,
three monochrome prints, three slides and three digitally projected
images.
20 The Alderman A. J. Stokes Cup
will be awarded for the best print (monochrome or colour) taken in
Dorset, of a subject chosen by the committee.
21 The Wells Cup will be awarded for the best slide
taken in Dorset, of a subject chosen by the committee.
22 The Michael Bark Memorial Cup will be awarded
for the best digitally projected image taken in Dorset, of a subject
chosen by the committee.
23 The Ernest Bristowe Cup will be awarded for the
best monochrome print of the year, of any subject.
24 The Dolphin Trophy will be awarded for the best
colour print of the year, of any subject.
25 The Sanderson Shield will be awarded for the
best slide of the year, of any subject.
26 The Ursula Ogle Memorial Cup will be awarded
for the best slide of the year, of any subject.
27 The Roy Grimely Wildlife and Natural History
Tankards will be awarded for the best colour slides, prints and digitally
projected images.
Note.
The following are not eligible: - photographs taken in zoos, aquaria,
safari or wildlife parks, butterfly farms and any area where the
wild creature photographed was held captive. Plant life, etc. is
not eligible if removed from its natural environment. A sub-committee
may be convened to vet the entries.
Exhibition Trophies
Portman Trophy: Awarded to
the best Panel of Prints.
President’s Shield for a Panel
of Prints: Awarded to the second placed panel of prints.
President’s Shield for a Single
Print: Awarded to the best individual print.
Vice - President’s Plate: Awarded
to the best individual colour slide.
Guidelines for the Selection of Prints and Slides
for External Competitions, League Battles and Exhibitions.
The Competition Secretary will request and collect prints, slides from the members for use in outside; will ensure
that the selected entries are acceptable under the rules of the competition and that the opposing club(s) are informed of our entry and, if ‘at
home’, who the judge will be; will confer with others to select a representative selection from the available work provided and see
that the entry is delivered in time.
The competition Secretary will see that a list of entries selected is posted on the notice board and, will arrange
that the selection will be shown to the club.
The Competition Secretary will advise the club of the results of outside competitions.
Members are reminded that selection of work for outside competitions representing the club can only be made
from work submitted and are therefore requested to submit their best work for consideration when requested.

Competition rules are amended in committee. Suggestions for changes and innovations should be made in writing
to the Hon. Secretary. Any revision and application to the rules would normally apply to the following season’s program unless it
was considered expedient to be applied during the current year.
