Bruce Barron
I am a past Chairman of Poole Camera Club. I have been a member
since 1993, taking photos of one sort or another since aged 10 - many years ago!
I take photos of most subjects, one I have many of is garden flowers. I use only
slide film, do my own processing and make my own prints from the slides. I have
remained exclusively film and darkroom, one of a small band not using digital.
Sue Diaper
I first became interested in photography whilst on a trip to
Switzerland and was given some colour film to use for the first time, and that
was over 35 years ago. In 1990 having recently moved to Poole, I joined Poole
Camera Club, becoming their Treasurer a year later. A position I still hold
today. In 2001 I became Chairman, and remained so for 2 years. My main interest
is natural history photography, but I also take anything that catches my
attention. Being a club member has enabled me to improve my photography and I am
about to take the next big step into digital photography.
June Elkins
My interest in photography was initiated through an Uncle, who was a
'Professional Photographer'. From around the age of 8 I could always be found,
with Mum's brownie camera, taking pictures of almost anything. On early
retirement I treated myself to a Canon 1000FN complete with two long lenses, and
joined Poole camera Club, where I continue to enter most competitions. I
particularly enjoy the 'set subjects' as it inspires me to contemplate new
ideas. My specialty is Italian Architecture, Natural History, Doors, Archways,
Reflections and People Pictures. In 2001 I came second in the R.H.S. Gardening
Photo Competition, and have also taken photos for Youth Afloat, the R.N.L.I. and
various other papers, magazines weddings etc.
Nina Ford
I have been interested in photography for about 40 years . My first camera was
an Agfa Silette box camera.
After many years of using an Olympus Om1n taking both slides and prints I
changed to Digital. I now use a Nikon D50.
Sarah Ford
I joined Poole Camera Club 3 years ago. I had just bought my first camera, a
Fujifilm 3 MegaPixel Digital camera. Although I was the youngest member of the
club by quite a margin, all the other members were very welcoming and keen to
offer advice and tips to help me improve my skills. I have gradually improved my
photography and have even had a print accepted into a local exhibition at
Salisbury.
Stephen Fowler
I joined Poole Camera Club as soon as I moved into the area 15 years
ago and enjoy the opportunity to see the work and learn the techniques of other
members. I do not specialise in any particular subject matter but will
photograph anything that catches my eye. Like many other members, I have taken
up digital photography and use an Olympus E1 SLR and a Sony compact.
Mike Leonard
My first photography efforts were
when I was about 14 (Some time ago now) and I continued taking the usual
holiday snaps until I built up a collection of some 75 albums. It wasn’t
until I retired and had more time that I joined Poole & Parkstone Camera
Clubs. Personally I find enjoyment in all types’ photography but I
particular like Landscapes, Architecture and Portraiture and have always
enjoyed the Set subjects in the competitions at both clubs. About three
years ago I joined the RPS and I have found the regional meetings very
helpful, informative and some of the speakers very professional in their
approach to photography. I have made some very good friends since
joining these clubs.
Joy McDonough
I attended the first meeting of
Poole Camera Club in 1962, and joined for a few years. I rejoined about 25 years
ago. I like taking people pictures and flowers. I try to do all sorts of
pictures (on slides) with early morning or evening light.
Mary Milner
I am married and retired. I have a
son and daughter, also married, and 4 granddaughters. I have always liked
photography, and I bought my first S.L.R. eighteen years ago, joining Poole
camera Club at the same time. I enjoy the lectures and competitions at the club;
and the company of the other members.
Gina Tait
I have always liked taking photos, but only holiday snaps until
digital photography came in. I bought my first digital camera (a 2 megapixel
Olympus) and never looked back. I now have two 8 megapixel Canon SLR's,
which I love, and I make a good proportion of my living from photography. I love
taking pictures of people, particularly children (I have two willing models of
my own!). I enjoy entering the club competitions, as this means I have to move
out of my "comfort zone" of portraiture and weddings. I joined the club in 2005,
and I am currently Chairman.
Chris Thorpe
Born 193X, and a member of Poole Camera Club for almost half a lifetime. Over
the years I have been Secretary for a total of ten years and Chairman for two,
currently I am the President. My photography is mostly a visual diary, but I
will photograph anything that catches my eye (and stays still long enough!).
Principal subject: The Outdoors.
Fred Vanstone
I enjoy photographing dragonflies, butterflies and other insects. I use
a Nikon F80 camera, a range of lenses including a 105mm micro Nikkor. I
always use a tripod - a Benbo Trekker.
Monique Vanstone
I love nature and wildlife photography, I belong to the Nature
Group of the RPS, I am also a member of the Digital Group, I
enter competitions in both groups.
I use a Nikon D70 camera and a Nikon D200. I prepare nature
or creative prints on my PC using PSCS2, I follow new
developments on the digital front as much as I can using the
Internet and participating in discussions. Above all I love
photographing birds, freezing in a hide or outdoors in Winter
and 'overheating' in the field in Summer. To me photography is
not patience but passion! I am a keen observer of wildlife and
do voluntary work on a local nature reserve to help and protect
in my modest way.
Ian Williams
I've been using Canon SLR bodies for 40+ years, my favourite (still in use)
being the T90 of the FD range and am content with the EOS 3(mainly slides) and
the digital D60. All have excellent metering. I rarely travel to take images,
but invariably take a camera when traveling. Exposure and composition need to
allow me to print what I've taken, since, my real interest lies in taking the
shot rather than manipulating it later. So digital photography rather than
digital imaging! Because I sail, caravan, get stuck into house projects and
travel the globe to see my grandchildren I have no set theme, but I suppose boat
racing is the first choice with cathedrals/churches a close second. The latter
presents real challenges with the tremendous contrasts in poorly-lit churches
with their shafts of sunlight. The competition entries at the Camera Club are
always so varied in theme, the quality so tolerant in range that there is
opportunity for all to 'Have a Go'. The members are friendly, the humour always
near the surface and the welcome is strong. All this and a good programme too!
